Got a message from my friend Chad Campbell.

"Working on the 8th Annual Kona Surf Film Festival! Psyched. we've teamed with the Mauna Lani Bay Hotel and Bungalows for the fest which has moved outdoors.. Dec. 2nd and 3rd,  2011 on the Big Island.. send your movies, come hang out, or sponsor it!  this year supporting the Seathos Foundation...... check the sites its gonna be sick!"

Indeed it does sound like the ideal way to hold a surf film festival.  Outdoors and in Hawaii.

Chad founded the festival in 2003 with help from his friends and family.  A filmmaker/editor/producer himself and a lover of all things surf.  He has several several movies to his credit such as Blueprint (2002), Searching for the Haj (2004), Seasons (2005), Zampa (2007), and the film that started it all and was awarded Surfer Magazine's Video of the Year, The 5th Symphony Document.

He is also known as Splinta in the music world for the surf bum rap and hip hop music he produces. Coming soon will be an interview Chad has with film-making legend Bruce Brown, directed by Chris Malloy and shot by Scott Soens for the Surfer's Journal.
